Volunteer Leaders play a critical role in the Club Program. The Council will train and support the leaders, but without volunteers, clubs cannot exist. Have you considered volunteering?

Who Can Be a Club Leader?
You can! Club Leaders are responsible and caring adults who are willing to plan, organize and conduct regularly scheduled meetings for youth members.

How Many Leaders Does a Club Need?
Each club must have a minimum of 2 leaders at each meeting. All leaders are interviewed, have references checked and go through a criminal background check. Our leaders receive complete training on the philosophy and management of a club. Leaders follow a written program with national standards.  Some clubs have a team of leaders who share responsibilities.

What kind of support is there for leaders?
For everyone who wants to be a leader the Council provides free training, a Leader's Manual, monthly newsletters and support meetings. Supplemental trainings and enrichment opportunities happen throughout the year. There are books available for purchase from the Camp Fire Store complete with ideas for what to do with your club and meeting outlines. There are always staff and volunteers available to help you.

How Long Does a Leader Serve?
A Leader is appointed for one year at a time.

How Much Time Does it Take?
About two hours per week, one hour for planning and one for the meeting. Leaders also receive training and have monthly leader meetings.

When and Where Do Clubs Meet?
Each Club meets on a regular basis, arranged to fit the schedules of its members and leaders. Meetings may be at school, a leader's home, or other community locations.

How Many Youth are in a Club?

Clubs vary in size from 6 to 15 or more youth. Camp Fire's goal is to encourage youth participation and foster the group experience. Your club may be asked to invite a youth in your area who is looking to join a club. Here are Camp Fire’s Minimum Adult:Kid Ratios: Little Stars 2:6, Starflight 2:12, Adventure 2:20, 6th-12th Grade 2:24.

Are There Adult Uniforms?
Camp Fire colors are red, white, and blue. For casual events and club meetings, many leaders wear a Camp Fire sweatshirt or t-shirt A dress uniform of a white shirt with navy or gray skirt or slacks is expected for formal events. Only kids earn emblems to decorate their uniforms.
