Staff Positions
Thank you for your interest in employment at
Camp Killoqua this summer! Employment is eight weeks, including paid
staff training and seven one-week sessions. Most start dates are June 26-28,
depending on position, and conclude August 22, 2009. Salaries are listed for
the full summer, plus show the weekly rate. Room and board is provided. Camp
employment may qualify for college credit or internships; please call for
more information. All employees, except kitchen assistants, must be a
minimum age of 18 and be a high school graduate with one year of college or
work-related experience.
Additional
employment is possible, too:
• Returning staff may be eligible to work with grief camp (June 20-25) or
day camp (June 22-26).

Here are the staff positions available:
Counselors - Guide and supervise a group of 6-10 campers in day
and resident programs. Counselors participate in general planning and
carrying out of camp program and also may work with another staff member and
4-6 campers with developmental disabilities. One year of college or
equivalent in experience working with children. $1,720 ($215/week)
Unit Coordinators - Supervise and coordinate the program within resident camp units. Work together with the counselors and campers to
plan a constructive, well-balanced program. Two years of college or
equivalent in experience working with children. Ability to coordinate,
organize and supervise. $1,850 ($225/week)
Inclusion (Special
Needs) Coordinator
– Guide and supervise staff who work with campers with developmental
disabilities. Experience working with children with special needs. Two years
of college or equivalent in experience working with children. Ability to
coordinate, organize and supervise. $1,850 ($225/week)
Day Camp Unit Coordinator - Supervise and coordinate the day camp program for
grades 1-8, and advise a teen leadership day camp assistant program. Work together with the counselors and campers to
plan a constructive, well-balanced program. Two years of college or
equivalent in experience working with children. Ability to coordinate,
organize and supervise. $1,850 ($225/week)
CIT/WIT Director
– Supervise and coordinate the Counselor-in-Training/Wrangler-in-Training program. Works together with the
Leadership Director and Unit Coordinators to
plan a constructive, well-balanced program that prepares future camp leaders. Two years of college or
equivalent in experience working with children. Ability to coordinate,
organize and supervise. $1,850 ($225/week)
Waterfront Director
- Supervise the waterfront staff, develop program and
participate in implementation of waterfront program. American Red Cross WSI,
Lifeguard Training, teaching experience and the ability to supervise.
$1,850 ($225/week)
Waterfront Assistants - Lifeguard and teach swimming and boating lessons.
American Red Cross WSI, Lifeguard Training experience in teaching swimming
and varied waterfront activities. $1,720 ($215/week)
Boating Specialist - Instruct row boating, canoeing and sailing
programs. Lifeguard at swimming. American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and
small craft safety or documented knowledge and experience in boating.
$1,720 ($215/week)
Horseback Riding Director - Supervise and coordinate the horseback
riding program, including program development and instruction, horse care
and maintenance. Two years of college or equivalent in experience working
with children and horses. Excellent riding skills, documented knowledge and
experience teaching riding to children.
$1,850 ($225/week)
Horseback Riding
Assistant Director
- Instruct campers
in riding, horse care and maintenance. Develop and lead daily lesson plans.
Excellent riding skills, knowledge and experience teaching riding to
children.
$1,720 ($215/week)
Challenge Course Specialists –
Lead initiative activities, low course, high course and climbing wall for
campers of all ages. Train staff to facilitate initiative activities and low
ropes course. Documented facilitator training and experience leading
challenge activities required.
$1,720 ($215/week)
Crafts Specialist - Develop and implement a craft program for all ages
of campers. Training and teaching experience in arts and crafts. Experience
in working with children.
$1,720 ($215/week)
Assistant Cooks – Prepare meals for 150 –200 people. Experience or
training in quantity cooking. Current food handlers permit.
Pay varies; inquire for details.
Commissary - Pack food for cookouts, help serve food and assists
cooks. Organizational skills, basic knowledge of cooking and current food
handler’s permit. $1,720 ($215/week)
Kitchen
Assistants - Wash dishes, serve food and clean kitchen.
Assist cooks. Interest in working with food service and children. Current
food handler’s permit.
$1,600 ($200/week)
Internships
- Many summer staff positions may be adapted to fit university internship
requirements. Internships run the full summer season (sometimes
longer) and are paid at the rate of the position you hold - unit
coordinator, challenge course specialist, etc. Killoqua's directors
supervise internships and work with interns to design programs that fit
